Athlete of the Week - Keri Bland

The AotW for July 5th-11th is Keri Bland. Keri represented the United States down at the U-23 NACAC Championship, in Miramar, Florida and won the 1500m. She ran 4:24.38, winning by just over a second in the tactical and very hot race. Jessica O'Connell, who was racing for America's Hat, finished second and gave the Mountaineers a 1-2 sweep. Great job representing your country, girls

Athlete of the Week - Megan (Metcalfe) Wright

Track and Field Videos on Flotrack

The AotW for June 28 to July 4 is Megan Wright. Formerly Megan Metcalfe, Mrs. Wright wins her AotW via her 7th place finish at the Prefontaine Classic. She ran 15:20.70 at historic Heyward Field. (I've embedded her race at Harry Jerome from 7/5 because it's more interesting to watch than the video of her Pre race.) She is a 2005 graduate from WVU who still lives in Morgantown and trains under Sean Cleary. Megan is chasing the Commonwealth Games standards of 15:16.99 and 4:10.24.

Athlete of the Week - Josh Simpson

The AotW for June 21-27 is Josh Simpson of the New York Athletic Club. Josh, an '03 Oak Glen graduate who trains out of Morgantown, finished 6th at the USATF National Championships in the 10,000m. He ran the tactical race in a time of 29:22.43, after blowing his foot apart with 800m to go. Get well soon Josh and good luck this Fall.
Hat tip to the other West Virginians at USATFs: Keri Bland (800m, North Marion), Clara Grandt (10,000m, Doddridge) and Karly Hamric (1,500m, Preston).

Athlete of the Week - Jacob Burcham

The AotW for June 14-20 is Jacob Burcham of Cabell Midland High School. Jacob wins his 7th AotW via his 17th place performance at New Balance Nationals, where he ran 4:15.10 for the mile. Other outstanding preformances at the meet include Dayton McVicker (15:26.90 for 5,000m) and Cam Viney (53.78 for 400H and 14.83 for 110H). If this site were not distance oriented, Mr. Viney would be the man of the week for that crazy 400H time.
Hat tip to the folks down at the WV 5K Championship for another superb event, looking forward to the 2011 edition.
