Thirty Days of Judgement
November 15th - NCAA Regionals
Athlete of the Week - Brenna Hagerty
The AotW for October 27th- November 2nd is Brenna Hagerty of West Virginia Wesleyan College. Ms. Hagerty won the WVIAC Championship this week by 2 seconds, in a time of 23:48. Her victory helped the Bobcats beat Alderson-Broaddus by 7 points for the women's title. Brenna is a Junior, the 2008 WVIAC 10,000m champion and is coached by Jesse Skiles. Brenna is also a 2005 graduate of Tyler Consolidated High School and her hometown is Friendly, WV. I'd have a photo of Ms. Hagerty running, but all I could find was this stock photo from the Wesleyan website. Best of luck to Brenna in the upcoming track seasons.

Athlete of the Week - Keri Bland
The AotW for Oct. 20th-27th is Keri Bland. Keri got 2nd at the Penn St. Nationals Open this past weekend with a steamy time of 20:11. Keri is a 2006 graduate of North Marion High School and runs for the #7 Mountaineers under Coach Cleary. Keri seems fully recovered from her long outdoor season (Olympic Trials were in July) and ready to rock out a solid Junior year. WVU is dormant until they win the Big East Championship on the 31st.
As an aside, this Penn St. meet may have been one of the strongest showings by West Virginians at a major collegiate meet in decades. (Benford 10th, Bland 2nd, C. Grandt 3rd, Lewis 8th and Christopher 10th) How crazy is it that WV has never gotten close to sending a girl to Foot Locker Nationals, yet WVU could field an all-WV-native team that would be ranked in the top-20 of the NCAA?

Athlete of the Week - Zach Tennant
The AotW for Oct. 13-19 is Zach Tennant of North Marion High School. His 16:34 at the Times Invitational is on par with many of the performances on that course by past dominant state champions. Zach is a regular here on AotW and the 2008 1600m AAA State Champion. David Ciarolla just missed out on AotW with holding the unfortunate position of being one of the fastest runner-ups (16:39) in Times history. Both of these guys beat what I consider my 2nd best high school cross race (17:16 at Apple Valley for Regionals...don't laugh, it won) by a huge margin. With the number of great guy's performances in the state this year, fingers are crossed for a solid showing at Footlocker South and a crazy 2009 track season. One thing is certain, you better be ready to go way south of 16 minutes if you want to win AAA Boys.

Athlete of the Week - Marie-Louise Asselin
The AotW for October 6th-12th is Marie-Louise Asselin. Marie-Louise is a product of Sarnia, Ontario and runs for Sean Cleary and the Mountaineers. Ms. Asselin wins her AotW award by virtue of her dominating performance at the Paul Short Invitational over the weekend. Marie-Louise, a junior, ran the 6K course is 19:38 and shattered both the meet and course record on her way to victory. Through her win, she helped lead the Mountaineers to a 31 point drubbing of second place Villanova. Best of luck to Marie-Louise and the rest of the Mountaineers throughout the rest of the Fall.
